WASHINGTON WINE MONTH

Travel to WASHNGTON STATE WINE COUNTRY with us!

Here is a recommended itinerary and travel stops if you are heading to the Central and Eastern Washington for a wine and food vacation, or if you are thinking about going in the future.

  • From Seattle Central Washington wine country like the Prosser areas, is about 3 hours east. The Columbia Gorge is about 4 hours southeast, and Walla Walla is about 6 hours east. Renting a car or flying to the Walla Walla airport will get you there, but mountain passes can close in the winter as well.

  • Rental car is generally the way to go here as things can be spread out. Staying in Prosser is a good home base, or Walla Walla or Hood River depending on the region yo are exploring. If staying in the Seattle area Woodinville offers hundreds of tasting room options.

  • Washington is pretty spread out and diverse. If you are looking for a long weekend in wine country i’d stick to a single region. If you have a week plus you could hit multiple spots on a fun road trip.

Woodinville

Woodinville WA is home to over 130 wineries and tasting rooms, with most sourcing their grapes from Eastern Washington. In addition to many winery options there are great restaurant choices such as the Herbfarm.

French Creek Vineyard near Prosser WA

French Creek Vineyard near Prosser is grown on a slope, and is cooled by winds coming off the river valley. Here older vine Rhone varietals provide the grapes that go into some of the wines of Devium, featured this month.

Red Mountain

Perhaps the most prestigious wine growing region, many of the big names of Washington Cabernet make powerful red wines here. However, some balanced and restrained examples are being produced out of the Weathereye Vineyard.

Columbia Gorge

The cool climate Columbia Gorge provides lower temperatures, a close source of water, and a moderating influence on the climate by the powerful Columbia River. Cool climate grapes such as Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc can thrive here.

Walla Walla Airport District

Walla Walla’s Airport District features many of the best Walla Walla winemakers, including Devium (in April 2021), featured in this month’s release. A great place to sample all the different variety this quaint area has to offer.
