Wine Trip
Mosel Germany
February 2021
Travel to the mosel with us!
Here is a recommended itinerary and travel stops if you are heading to the Friuli Italy for a wine and food vacation, or if you are thinking about going in the future.
Maps for this month’s wine region were provided by Wines of Germany
From Seattle and most of the west coast is about a 12 hour flight time to Frankfurt. It’s about 1.5 hour drive/train ride from Frankfurt to Koblenz, which is at the top of the Mosel River
Rental car is generally the way to go here as things can be spread out. Keep in mind, in Europe this often means stick shift. There is also the option to take the train to Koblenz and then take a river boat tour down part of the the Mosel.
Your jump of point could be Koblenz or Trier, two of the larger towns in the area, but I prefer the smaller villages like Cochem or Traben Trarbach
Koblenz
A great jump off point for your Mosel trip. This larger town is at the top of the Mosel river and cruise boats can be booked for trips downriver. A train station can connect you to Frankfurt airport.
Cochem
The beautiful village of Cochem and Cochem Castle. This town can be a bit touristy, and sometimes crowded but its worth the stop to see the village and small shops.
Weingut Willi Schaefer
The vineyards of Willi Schaefer located near another beautiful village, Bernkastel-Kues. Making a delicious fruity style of Riesling, and with beautiful hillside vineyards, its a can’t miss!
Restaurant Burg Lanshut in Bernkastel
Burg Landshut in Bernkastel is an upscale German restaurant with breathtaking views of the Mosel River. Traditional German food elevated with a great wine and beer list.
Trier
A great town to end your journey in, Trier is considered Germany’s oldest city. Packed fully of history of beautiful architecture, it’s a beautiful spot to relax a few days before heading home.
