Wine Trip
west coast alpine road trip
take a alpine road trip down the west coast of the us with us!
Here is a short itinerary of our recent wine trip road trip down the west coast.
From Seattle, Umpqua Valley is about 6 hours south on I-5. Going further south you pass both Rogue and Applegate Valleys on the way to Shasta and Trinity about another 5 hours south.
You can break up the trip by staying in Roseburg in Umpua Valley or further north up in Salem near Willamette Valley.
Vineyards of Abacela Vineyard in Umpqua Valley
Abacela Vineyard in Umpqua specializes in native Spanish varietals and is one of the pioneers of these grape types in the region. Don’t miss out on their Tempranillo or Albarino.
Pit Stop Roseburg Oregon
The largest town in the Umpqua Valley and one of the better home bases in lower Oregon wine country. Some good dining options as well as scenic Airbnbs.
Rouge Valley Creamery
One of the best creameries on the West Coast. This is a great place to grab cheese for a wine picnic. I wouldn’t recommend blue cheese in a fondue, but they have plenty of great cheeses to choose from even though they do blues best.
Troon Vineyard Appelgate Valley
Troon Vineyard in Applegate Valley is Biodynamic and Certified Organic and also producing some of the most exciting wines in all of Southern Oregon. Made with minimal intervention, but intensely flavored and nuanced.
Trinity Lake
These vineyards are at high elevation in the Trinity Lake AVA as well as some grapes from Rouge Valley in Souther Oregon. They are made mostly from native French Alpine varietals from Savoie and Jura, very rare for the US and California.
Rouge Valley
Rogue Valley provides a bit more heat and sun than most of the rest of Oregon, and is producing many exciting red wines as well as more full bodied white wines along with some exciting Italian varietals.
