Here’s a short condensed itinerary of our wine trip
There are several great beachside towns to explore all along the coast. From Portland, Seaside, Astoria, and Oceanside are all only about 1.5 hours away. From Seattle, Hood Canal is about 1.5 hours, and Westport is about 3 hours. From San Fransisco, Mendocino/Fort Bragg Coast is about 3.5 hours. And from Santa Barbara, San Louis Obisbo and Pismo beach are ab out 1.5 hours away.
Westport Washington
The beachside town of my childhood. Many fun nights were spent camped at the beach, grilling fresh seafood, and feeling tiny next to the massive Pacific Ocean.
Seaside Oregon
The iconic rock formations of Seaside Oregon. A great place to hang for the day, drink wine and picnic with friends.
Vineyards of Domaine de la Cote
Vineyards of one of the finest Pinot Noir (and Chardonnay!) makers in the world! This vineyard is just about as close as you can get to the Pacific Ocean but still reliably ripen grapes.
Beach Wine Picnic, Oregon Coast
Some shots from of several of my very favorite wines from great producers, in action at a late fall beachside picnic on the Oregon Coast.
Civic Winery, Amphora Room
Civic Winery, based in Eugene Oregon, produces many interesting wine aged in clay amphora vessels as shown here. This month’s cider offer is aged in these same vessels, giving the cider a smooth and complex density.
Vineyards of Florez Winery
One of my favorite “coastal” wineries, based on Santa Cruz, CA, this organic and sustainble vineyard is full of life, and this essence seems to transfer into the wines themselves.
