Here’s a short condensed itinerary of our wine trip

  • Palermo is the largest city and can be found in the NW end of the island, with Catania on the east coast closest to Mount Etna.

  • Renting a car is really the best way to get around unless you hire a private driver.

  • Palermo is the largest town in the region and the best place to kick off a trip.

Vittoria

The vineyards of Vittoria where Nero d’Avola is blended with Frappato to make a elegant and perfumed red blend.

Arianna Occhipinti

She’s been a young rising star for a while to the point where she is now probably the most important wine maker in Sicily outside of Mt. Etna. Making elegant and fresh wines from native grapes, and inspiring many new wine makers.

Cefalu

The amazing and beautiful seaside village of Cefalu. Plenty of fresh seafood and other traditional dishes can be found here that pair excellently with the local wines.

Agrigento

Perhaps the best preserved Greek ruins in all the world can be found here…in Italy. An amazing preserved town is right near the ruins. This town is a must see if you make it to the south side of the island.

Vineyards of Nino Barraco outside Marsala

The stunning arid region near Marsala still produces zippy and fresh wines. Cooled by some northerly winds, and being on the north side of the island, keeps the grapes just cool enough to preserve their crisp acidity.

Sicilian wine and food

Much of Sicily is polyculture, where grape vines, olive groves, wheat fields, and fruits and vegetables are interplanted. This leads to a vibrant and holistic growing environment.
