Some boat trips go up the river but it’s more of a fun thing to do than a form of rapid transportation.
Oporto Portugal
The capitol of Portuguese wines, know for its large old Port houses but also and epicenter for food and dry wines, a great place to kick off a Portuguese wine trip.
Niepoort Winery Vila Nova de Gaia
The barrel rooms of Niepoort, one of the most storied Port houses in Portugal. These are located across the river from Oporto in Vila Nova de Gaia. While they specialize in Port, they are also pushing the envelope into creative new dry red and white wines.
Douro Valley
The epicenter of Port wine viticulture, and one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world. The Douro River cuts through steep valleys and helps provide irrigation and moderating influence on what can be an intensly hot place.
DOP Restaurant Oporto
DOP, one of the best restaurants in Oporto, is elevated local Portuguese cuisine, but created with a fine dining atmosphere and aesthetic.
Bojo do Luar vineyards Vinho Verde region.
The lush green and healthy biodynamic/organic vineyards of Bojo do Luar in the Vinho Verde wine region. This is the greenest part of Portugal and this producer is making some of the most exciting wines in the country from this very healthy vinyards.
Portuguese “Marisqueras”
Portugal is known for its amazing fresh seafood of all kinds. Restaurants called “Marisqueras” are all over the place and feature huge towers of any kind of seafood you can imagine.
