jura france road trip

take a road trip to jura france with us!

Here is a short itinerary of a wine trip to Jura France.

  • The Jura region is located east of Burgundy. Flying from the US to Paris is probably the best start. Though you can take a train to get to the general region, you’ll need a car to fully explore it.

  • The best place to start your trip is probably the beautiful village of Baume-Les-Messieurs, about 4 hour drive from Paris. This can be your base of operations.

“Most beautiful village in France” Baume-Les-Messieurs

This picturesque village is tiny, but an amazing place to start your journey. Book well in advance as it is very small and eat in the village if possible.

Comté Cheese

In my opinion, probably the best cheese in the world, and only made here in Jura. Make sure you eat it often when here with wine, and try all the different age levels (12, 24, 36 etc)

Chateau Chalon

One of the most famous wine making villages of the region. Wines from here are like anything else made in th world, called “yellow wine” or vin jaune, these wines are powerful, intense, and complex. Also amazing with Comté

Domaine Benedicte et Stephan Tissot

Tissot, perhaps the most influential wine maker in the region is based in Arbois a hub of the wine trade in the region. Tissot makes many different cuvées from all kinds of grapes and soil types and his wines never disappoint.

Vin Jaune

Ancient and indestructible, these bottles are over 200 years old and probably still taste great. An obscure method only found in Jura and unable to be replicated elsewhere.

Winemaker Jean-François Ganevat

A leading light of wine making in the region, and legend in the natural wine community, his wines can be polarizing, but are just as often stunning.
