Wine Trip
Mount etna sicily
Travel mount etna sicily with us!
Here is a short itinerary of our wine trip to Mount Etna Sicily If you can’t make the trip soon, open your 3 pack, bake some pork ribs, and experience the Etna!
Fly to Catania direct from Rome if possible. Though you may have to go through Palermo. A train can also take you there crossing at Messina.
Car rental is really required as the region is pretty spread out and trains won’t allow you to make the shorter stops.
Drive from Catania up to the north side of the mountain and stay in the small town of Randazzo.
Catania
The largest city in the area, and a great base of operations, especially for visiting the souther and eastern areas of Etna.
Catania Fish Market
One of the best fresh seafood markets in the world. Pick up something to cook up at home or browse the fresh selections and dine on them later in local restaurants.
Vineyards of Frank Cornelissen
The magical vineyards of Etna maverick winemaker Frank Cornelissen on the north side of Etna.
Ancient Greek Ruins
The remains of an ancient Greek amphitheater with Etna in the background. The Greeks brought culture as well as winemaking to the island.
Lava flows in the vineyard
New lava flows run right up to some of the vineyards. A constant threat, but also and integral part of the terroir.
The qvervi (clay vessels) of Vino di Anna
Vino di Anna makes some of their wines in underground clay vessels called qvervri like these ones. This allows the wine to age and received oxygen without being flavored by oak, retaining fruit purity.
