Here’s a short condensed itinerary of our wine trip
Barcelona is the closest major city and the hub of this wine region.
By car, the heart of Penedès wine country is only about a 45 min drive.
Car rental or private driver is the easiest way to get around, rideshare is pretty limited.
Barcelona
The cultural and culinary hub of the region. A buzzy city with amazing food, friendly people, and beautiful architecture. The best place to begin and end your wine journey to this region.
Monstant Vineyards
The intensely steep and dry vineyards produce structured and concentrated wines, but at a fraction of the price of neighboring and better known Priorat.
Traditional Catalonian Food
Tons of great seafood in this region, but most of the cuisine is unique from other Spanish regions, as of course, this region is distinctly Catalonian. Here, Fideuà, is similar to paella, but made with noodles rather than rice.
Alt-Penedès Wine Region
Where several of the wines this month come from, this region offers extra elevation, which cools the grapes allowing from a longer ripening season and more balanced acidity.
Priorat
The big daddy wine region here, with powerful intense reds that command high scores and prices. The soil is made from crumbling black slate call Licorella.
Raventos i Blanc
Probably the leading sparkling wine maker in all of Spain. They left the Cava DO to pursue more single vineyard, quality minded and terroir driven wines. There top quality wines can go head to head with any Champagne in terms of quality and longevity.
